Wecome to Dan's Hiking Pages: Hikes in the San Gabriels and Beyond!
My name is Dan Simpson and I love to hike! Since I live in Azusa, California, at the mouth of the San Gabriel Canyon, the San Gabriel Mountains / Angeles National Forest is my primary hiking venue. Thus, the San Gabriels are the focus of this site.
My other favorite hiking areas are the Tahoe National Forest (Northern Calif.), where we've vacationed many summers since 1993, and the San Bernardino National Forest (Southern Calif.), where we've recreated a lot over the years.
So, Dan's Hiking Pages are an attempt to give you a glimpse into my hiking world and to share some of the things I've learned. Enjoy!
Books - There are several good guide books for hiking in Southern California. Read my reviews.
Forest Closure:
Due to the Station Fire from September 2009, 294,317 acres of the Angeles National Forest are closed. The area roughly runs from Little Tujunga Canyon in the west to Hwy 39 to the east, and from the southern foothills to the edge of the desert to the north. Read more.
