December 2009
Christmastime Greetings!

Family 2009 We trust this finds you well and experiencing the joy of celebrating Christ's birth this Christmastime. We are so grateful for the Lord's grace and blessings. Here are some highlights of our year.

Dan is enjoying his work in serving the board of directors at the denominational office of The Foursquare Church in Los Angeles. He has been having a blast exploring the City of Los Angeles with his "urban hikes" and taking loads of pictures. This year Dan has been occupied in restoring the wood siding on the house and in November, with the help of a contractor, finished building a new front porch and replacing the house roof. But he has still squeezed in some time to head for the hills for some real hiking and continues to maintain his hiking website.

Dena began the year running the half marathon in Huntington Beach, then celebrated her birthday in Hawaii with her grandson, Azariah, and his parents, Micah and Sigrid. While there she ran in the Great Aloha Run (8.125 miles). Azusa Pacific University library is still home away from home for Dena. She enjoys her work and really has developed a love for each of her student workers. Dena had new kind of adventure this year...an emergency appendectomy in November. The surgery went well and she is still gaining strength. But she is disappointed that she is unable to train for the next half marathon.

Micah, Sigrid, and Azaria had a year filled with many great memories and experiences. Micah and Sig continue taking classes at Pacific Rim Christian College and enjoy the student life. Sigrid traveled to San Jose, Calif. to visit her cousins in July. Micah, Sigrid, and Azariah had a great time visiting family and friends in Nevada and Calif. in late September. Micah launched a generational youth conference in October. Azariah turned one on November 27 and is learning to walk and talk. He is an avid swimmer and Cheerios eater. They invite all to come and visit Hawaii!

Anna has had an exciting year. She completed her single-subject teaching credential for music at Azusa Pacific University. She traveled throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts with her best friend Josh and his family, celebrating his graduation from Navy Officer Candidate School. She also helped Josh move to his current station in Athens, Georgia. Anna is currently finishing her class for her masters in education and looks forward to working on her thesis in the spring. She also works as a substitute teacher in the cities of Azusa and Glendora.

Christa is in the middle of her second year at Azusa Pacific University as an athletic training major and likes living in a campus apartment. She works in the library and holds several leadership positions around campus. She has had fun helping the sports teams, playing sax in the marching band, and learning lots of interesting things in her classes. She looks forward to more real experiences in athletic training as she advances in her program. Christa enjoyed many trips to Disneyland this year using her annual pass.

We have much to be thankful for. God has truly blessed us with health, provision, and spiritual life. May God's richest blessings be upon you and yours during this Christmas season and throughout the coming year!
